How to Have a Brilliant Black Friday

From crazy discounts to Hunger Games-style shopping queues, Black Friday can be a stressful day to navigate if you’re not fully prepared. So, whether you plan to spend it promoting your brand’s seasonal sale on social media, sitting out of the celebration, or shopping for your very own bargains, we’ve put together our top tips to help you have a great day.

🛍️ In the Black Friday spirit? For brands joining the celebration...

Plan and schedule your content in advance

Gone are the days where Black Friday was a one-day event. For some brands, the celebration begins days, sometimes weeks, earlier. To ensure that you’re consistently posting high-quality content during a period with significantly increased traffic to your social pages, prepare your campaigns and ads in advance. Don’t forget to stagger your content at optimum posting times and share previews of exclusive deals to build anticipation.

Cover your social bases

Organise your time or marketing team to ensure you’re monitoring all of your social media accounts. You need to engage with user-generated content whilst there is growing excitement on your socials. By promptly responding to customer enquiries and keeping the conversation going about your epic campaigns, you’ll deliver a high-quality service throughout different points of your customer’s journey.

Host a giveaway

Offering a gift with purchase or running a time-sensitive competition is a fun way to incentivise customer engagement and sales. It will also help you attract new customers and stand out.

Follow up

From encouraging post-purchase reviews to promoting Christmas offers, it’s important to follow up with your seasonal customers to build customer loyalty. Whether you create sales or community-focused content, you need to maintain your audience’s interest. Not only will this improve overall customer experience, but it will also keep your brand fresh in their mind for future purchases.

✋ Saying no to Black Friday? For brands skipping the shopping event…

Take a strategic, yet authentic, stance

For some socially and environmentally conscious brands, Black Friday is often received quite negatively, thought to feed overconsumption and impulse buying. Therefore, boycotting the shopping event could actually provide a great opportunity to affirm those brands' commitment to sustainability. So whether you want to quietly sit out of Black Friday or publish a statement about why you’re not taking part, make sure you do it with confidence.

Shift focus

Just because you’re not promoting a sale does’t mean that you shouldn’t post on social media on Black Friday. Make the most of increased traffic to your pages and take a moment to shout about your products, achievements, partnerships or any charity work your business has been involved in.

Do your research

From reading reviews to comparing similar products online, doing your research before Black Friday is a smart way to avoid impulse buying. Not only will it ensure you get the products you genuinely want, but it means you’ll have plenty of time before-hand to consider alternative options. You can simply look for the cheapest price on the day and you’re done!

Don’t be fooled on price

A Black Friday bargain is ironically not always a bargain. Use price checking resources to track the recent price history of potential purchases to ensure you’re actually getting a great deal. Our favourites are CamelCamelCamel, featured below which lists information specifically for products on Amazon, and PriceRunner.

Create a Wishlist

By bookmarking products you want in advance, you’ll not only save yourself valuable shopping time but also avoid impulse buying.

Don’t Stress

News flash: Black Friday isn’t the only sale event of the year. If you don’t get the discount you want, don’t worry! There will be more opportunities to save on Cyber Monday (2nd December 2024) and in the run up to Christmas, with some seasonal sales running throughout December and into New Year.
